Day 12 - Fundamentals of Physics - 1.6 Estimations and Order of Magnitude

You are welcome to check out my previous blogs within the series “Fundamentals of Physics

In physics, as in life, we find ourselves having to make estimations in order to get an approximation as a general view of the situation, we might not have all the accurate details, we actually never do - thus, everything in physics is only accurate up to a degree of error, this degree of error can be anywhere from small to big where as in every situation we will demand or compromise on a different degree of accuracy / error.

Physicist love approximations, in this chapter we will speak of estimations within the quantity as the order of magnitude, this is similar to what we discussed in chapter 1.4 Dimensional Analysis, where we had to use our common sense in understanding the dimensions of the quantity / problem, as the nature of the quantity and the relationships within the problem, to gain more access to it as an initial step in solving the problem - here, in this chapter we are looking at a different form of estimation, here the estimation will be in regards to magnitude, as we outline a general size / amount / quantity, and thus are able to have more access to understanding the situation, in regards to the size / amount / quantity

When we speak of "order of magnitude" we are referring to the power of 10, how many time 10 multiples with itself - though again, like we've seen before - this is a random choice and has no profound physical meaning, it is just very convenient to calculate within the decimal system, as the power of 10 is: 10, 100, 1000, 10000 and so on, as well as 0.1, 0.01, 0.001 … and so on - you will find this method to be very easy and practical. For those that are not familiar with this - a simple way to know what is the power of magnitude of a number is to count how many digits it has, before or after the decimal dot, and depending if the number is larger than 1 or if it is a fraction, thus between 0 and 1.

For instance, the number 123,345,456 - we will first round this number down to be 100,000,000, a much easier number to work with, and in regards to the order of magnitude both 123,345,456 and 100,000,000 have the same order of magnitude, the same amount of digits, if you will - now lets count how many zeros appear after the initial digit -we have 1 and 8 zeros following, thus the order of magnitude is 10 in the power of 8.

We can do the same with fractions, 0.1 is 1/10, thus we can say it is equal to 10 in the power of (-1), 0.01 is 10 in the power of (-2), and so on, so now lets take it into practice, lets take for instance the number 0.000976 - we will round this number up to be 0.001 and now it's clear to see that the order of magnitude is 10 in the power of (-3).

You might ask yourself, "but, now that we do all our calculations on the computer why would we need to round the number if the computer can make an accurate calculation? that's true, this exercise will be implemented when you are not using a computer, as you are just organizing the information and making the general estimations and approximations, and you don't want to be distracted by the specific numbers, because maybe it doesn’t matter if it's more or less a few thousand when you are speaking of billions, so it gives you the opportunity to have a clean number to work with, without losing the relevant data, which is the order of magnitude rather than the exact number.

Estimations in physics is a cool tool to use in order to understand the general outline of a problem without having to go through, look for, or calculate all the specific details - then, once we have the approximation we can determine if we require to investigate any further to find a more accurate and precise solution.

Speaking of the order of magnitude is very relevant when comparing two quantities, as it will show if they are in the same order of magnitude, thus, approximately the same size, or if there are a few orders of magnitude difference, this is relevant in physics because many times if there is a big difference in order of magnitude one can decide to neglect the small quantity because it is too small in comparison to the bigger one and thus is considered to have close to zero effect on the problem - we saw this when we discussed the atom, as we saw that the proton's mass is 2000 times larger than the electrons mass, and thus when calculating the mass of the atom we ignore the mass of the electron because it is three orders of magnitude smaller and thus irrelevant. Of course there might be some calculations that the level of accuracy must be higher and then they will be as accurate as possible, it depends of the need of the experiment. Another example to grasp this point is money, if you have 1004 dollars, the 4 dollars seem insignificant, as they are 3 orders of magnitude smaller, same would be if you had 75 million dollars, or if you had 750 million dollars, the difference is only one order of magnitude and see what a big difference it does, an the other hand if you have 75 million dollars and then lost some money and have now 69 million, it's in the same ball park, same order of magnitude.

Once you get the simplicity and practicality of this method you can take on real life problems and estimate them roughly to gain access and insight into the point. Such as, how many people can the earth sustain - ask yourself what information you will need and research it, such as how much surface of productive soil does the earth have, how much land it takes to feed one person for a life time - gather the information and round it up, multiply the relevant quantities and figure it out.

As I've said in my previous blog, a number, an amount, rarely has any value if it is not placed in relation to something, thus, when we are given a number, in order to give it meaning we must compare it to something, for instance, if we want to know how many people are malnourished in the world we will find that it is estimated to be 925 million people which can be expressed as the approximation by saying that the order of magnitude of 10 in the power of 9, though It's hard for us to even grasp how much that really is - so lets see if we can get an idea through relating it to other amounts that we are more in touch with: The most populated city in the world in Shanghai, populating approximately 18 million people, the order of magnitude is 10 in power of 7, that is 2 orders of magnitude less than the order of magnitude of hungry people in the world - so you can imagine that if you take all the people in Shanghai 100 times, that is the amount of people that are malnourished. New York City's population is approximately 10 in the power of 6, that would mean to take all the people in New York 1000 times and deprive all of them of nourishment, or take a school of children, we can estimate a school has about 1000 kids in it, so the amount of people that are malnourished in the world is equal to the amount of kids in 100,000 school full of children being hungry - just to try and grasp how many people are malnourished - you should know that in all of the united states there are less than 100,000 public school, this means that there are more people starving in the world than there are students in USA - that's an insanely large amount of people - now, wouldn't you say that if we can calculate this, and grasp how many people we're talking about, don't we now have a responsibility to find solutions - we can use our common sense, and can now calculate within making rough estimations within finding our the order of magnitude of land we need, of founding we need, how much we need to limit our consumerism and / or the destruction of our land, and so on.

By using estimations we can take responsibility and educate ourselves through using common sense to assist us in becoming more aware of what is going on here, in our reality - when we hear that in South Africa alone, a woman is raped every 17 seconds - you can now make an approximate calculation and find out how many women are being brutally raped every year, you can calculate how many have been raped through out your life time, you can compare this number to the population of your city and assess how many of your cities would it take to reach that insane amount of tragic abuse - now that these numbers have more of a personal meaning you can ask yourself what can be done, how can we change this - but obviously you couldn't have asked yourself that before you knew the extent and vastness of the problem. Thus, it is each of our responsibility to utilize the tools provided to us, to investigate our reality, to get ourselves out of the bubble we comfortably exist in, within justifying that we do not know, and that it's difficult calculations, because through any thread of data that comes your way you can utilize critical thinking, ask yourself questions, don't take the numbers / quantities for granted, make yourself familiar with what that number means to you, find a way to reach that order of magnitude through value and quantities from your life experience, become aware of what is here as the first step towards taking self responsibility for it.

This is a cool tool to utilize because in many cases we find ourselves overwhelmed with the vastness of information, and we can thus justify not approaching a problem because we don't have enough information, or that we can't see the exact details, or that we are simply intimidated by these big numbers - this method shows us that we can approach any problem with the data that we have, and through utilizing the power of magnitude estimated approximation, we can come closer to understanding the problem - we don't know what will open up once we start investigating, thus we mustn't allow the experience of overwhelmingness to direct us, limit us, and prevent us from using what we do know, to approach any problem or situation that presents itself.

When walking the desteni process we find ourselves in such situations many times, where we see a pattern we participate in, but at a first glans it appears to be too big and too detailed and we don't have access to all the points within it, so many times we will push the point away within justifying that we cannot see it yet, though, within the principle of estimated approximations, we now know that whatever information we do have is within our responsibility to explore and investigate, knowing that we will not come to the final solution from the get go, though knowing that within this initial investigation we will be able to see the problem from a new perspective, as we will be able to see one more layer of depth into ourselves - whatever will open up we do not yet know, thus we have a responsibility to explore it, and from what open us, even though it is a generalized estimated approximation, we will be able to move to the next step and the next step and so on, until we are satisfied that we "hit the spot", that we see our participation and responsibility within and as the pattern / character / behavior - thus we walk this process one step at a time, using what we have access to, as true scientists, dedicated to turn every rock until we have turned the one that will lead us to the next phase of our investigation.

Within walking process, many being participate in the "I don't know" or "I can't do this" characters - we must realize that yes, at the moment we "do not know" but it is merely because we are not allowing ourselves to truly investigate in self honesty and actually find out - not realizing that we must take that first step, that first leap into the, what seems to be, unknown, as we will find that within ourselves, in self honesty we have known all along, but we have masked ourselves from seeing ourselves - thus, we must allow ourselves to start, as in a generalized estimated approximation - if I don't know exactly what I am feeling / experiencing / thinking / remembering, I will find the general experience / feeling / memory, and investigate it, as what is here, within realizing that only through walking the point will the next point / layer open up and thus, we cannot expect to know before we have set foot I the journey to life, as exploring and investigating ourselves into the unknown, to come out of it a living expression of "know thy self".

Thus, feel free to make approximations and estimations as you walk the process in order to gain access to the next, deeper layer of yourself, commit yourself to open up what is here and not follow blindly the experience of overwhelmingness, but rather realize that it is a process, and as the physicist you must start with the approximation, and then become more and more specific until you are self honestly satisfied that you are done with the point, and move on to the next.
enjoy

Day 11 - Fundamentals of Physics - 1.5 - Conversion of Units

You are welcome to check out my previous blogs within the series “Fundamentals of Physics

In one of the previous blogs Day 7 - Fundamentals of Physics - 1.1 - Standardized Quantities I spoke about standardizing quantities, as an agreement formed for all the scientific community to be able to, well, communicate effectively. As I've mentioned there isn't as of yet a consensuses for one set of standardized units and quantities to be used, as foolish as this may seem, so we are stuck with a few different systems of sets of units and quantities - it's like speaking in different languages, which is obviously less convenient and may cause error in translation, than having one language agreed upon by all.

Conversion of units is a simple mathematical tool used to convert units from one system to another, thus to "translate" one set of units to another - this is applied to translate between different systems, as from miles to kilometer for instance, as well as for translating units within one system, as the metric system for instance, converting from meters to centimeter.

I've added below a table illustrating some conversions of basic units, there is a table as such for each quantity in physics, showing the conversion between the different units and scales.

For a moment, let's look at the practical application of unit conversion - it's is really very simple - you just need to know the units you are asked about and make sure you convert all known units to be of the same system, for that it would be helpful to have a unit conversion table.

For intense we know that 1 mile = 1610 meters = 1.61 km, now lets say you are taking a road trip and you know how many kilometers will a full gas of tank let you drive, but the signs to the next gas station are marked in miles, and you want to know if to take this exit or to continue to the next - what you will have to do is convert the miles to km and then evaluate which exit you will take - the conversion is simply multiplying the amount of miles in the ration as described above - this is very easy to do when you know the conversion ration, and even then mistakes are possible, a common mistake if confusing between dividing or multiplying - little things that require your attention.

But what if we don't have access to the conversion table? Without a table we lose our ability to translate the units we have to the units we require. We would then be lost in translation - exactly as we are lost within our mind, as we have lost the map of ourselves, forgot the ratio between the unit systems, and thus have made it much more difficult for us to figure out how to convert the alternate reality we have created in our minds, back to the common language of the physical reality.

The one uniform international system that we can all share and agree on is the physical, where the different systems are our individual minds, where we each have a different scaling system, a different value system, different experiences - we are interacting with the same physical reality but come to different conclusion because we have been using a different set of units, as the different memories, interpretations, beliefs we each have identified with ourselves.

And we can see how this effects our communication, as we are all speaking in different mind languages, from our individualized perspective, and we have not yet found / realized the conversion table that will enable us to realign our unit to that of the physical, and thus actually communicate effectively.

Within the desteni process, what we are busy with is finding the map back to ourselves, and as each one of us realizes their map, as how they have created themselves in such a way, what turns did they take to end up with these personalities / characters / beliefs, we will be able to trace our steps backwards, we will be able to re unite at the center point of the physical reality which is the actual base we are all standing on, but have lost contact with, and have lost the return directions, so now, we must find the map within ourselves, and once we do, we can convert / change how we interpret reality, from a starting point of self interest, to one that actually considers reality. Once we are all coming from a starting point of considering the physical as the one reality we all share, we will then be able to have effective communication, as we will have one language, and the need for conversion tables will be no more.

An interesting point to consider within looking at the point of having different systems of units that require conversion, is how ineffective we, as humanity are, how we waste resources to indulge in useless systems of units instead of uniting to one system that will be agreed upon, and thus can be perfected to be the most effective and accurate.

The same goes for the mind, as we waste resources to indulge in useless systems of the mind, as memories / beliefs / ideas / interpretations, instead of uniting to one system that will be agreed upon, such as the physical reality which we all exist within / as and share equally. Where, once realized that the common system we share for communication is the physical reality, we can perfect our communication and thus relationships to be the most effective and accurate.

As I have stated before, if you take the time to research the history of these units and scales, you will find they are all so very random, far from actually being an important or valuable quantity, as they have been randomly selected and historically kept - the fact that we have multiple systems proves to us that regardless the system we chose, the physics of the matter stays the same, the physical thus is not effected by the choice of units we make - thus it really has no actual value besides the practical convenience of having a scale of unites that is known and agreed upon, but since we have many scales / units / systems because we could not all agree on just one that would be best for all, we have actually giving up on the practical convenience it would have given us, out of irrational reasons, as I find no practical reason in having more than one system that all agree on.

This phenomenon of multiple unit system demonstrate the insanity and impracticality of humanity, as even though which ever system of unites we use has no practical effect on the physical and even though we recognize the value in having one system that is agreed upon and uniform for all, we still fight to maintain our system of unites based on our identification with our history - and to do so, we justify ourselves with whatever excuse we may find while disregarding the immense problems that are created by having multiple systems of units, such as the inaccuracies or flat out mistakes it may cause while applying the conversion, or the ecological effects it has as it is simply inefficient and thus consumes more energy and resources to manufacture equipment for all different system units, and even just the wasted time it takes to calculate the conversion, as simple as it is - it is simply useless.

We as humanity create the exact same construct within our participation with our mind, we hold on for dear life to our memories, our perception, our beliefs and ideas, even though they are so very randomly created and have no physical value, just like a randomly selected system of units. And even though we see the problems that believing in our mind causes, as it is the source of all conflict and suffering that we experience, we are not willing to let it go because we have identified ourselves with it, as we believe that if we let it go we will lose ourselves, our identity.

We have all created ourselves within our world using our mind, as our own unique system of units, as we each interpret the physical reality through our minds based on our history, as our past experiences and relationships, within the energetic charge we have given to our memories, instead of realizing that we do have already a unified system in place, as the physical reality, where if we would all agree to let go of out illusionary reality within our minds we will all have the one shared language of the physical - at the moment we are all trapped in our minds and have lost our unique conversion table that we have created, each for ourselves, as the map that will allow us to change the units we have been using to interpret our reality, and bring us back to the basic and agreed upon, equal system we all share as the physical reality.

To sum up, we have many systems of units, so we must convert units to be able to solve a problem, as we need to look at the entire problem in the same units, as the same language, to do so, we use the conversion data, and apply the basic mathematics - when it comes to process we have dug ourselves a deeper ditch, as we have lost the conversion table, and must recreate it as ourselves, as we teach ourselves how we created ourselves as ourselves, in the uniqueness of ourselves, and within that learn our way back, and to reach the common language of all, as the physical reality.

Day 10 - Fundamentals of Physics - 1.4 - Dimensional Analysis

You are welcome to check out my previous blogs within the series “Fundamentals of Physics

Dimensional Analysis in physics is one of the most common sense tools to gain access to a problem, and is an essential tool to find mistakes or prevent them within a solution.

Firstly lets see how physics defines dimensions, as this word can have several meanings depending on the back round you are coming from. Dimensions in physics denotes the physical nature of a quantity, thus for instance, the dimension of distance, the physical nature of distance, is length, and as we've seen in chapter 1.1 it is symbolized as [L]. The dimension of volume would then be [V] = [L]^3 because the nature of volume is the nature of distance in the power of 3 - as height, width and depth.

Knowing the physical nature of a quantity would then mean knowing to express it in dimensional, thus using the most basic quantities, as [M], [L] and [T] in mechanics, and other quantities as temperature and electrical current in other fields of physics, but the same principle of dimensional analysis holds in all fields of physics.

Dimensional analysis requires that both sides of an equation can be expressed as the same dimensions, which makes sense because we have stated an equality within placing an equation. Thus, the relationship within the equation can be correct only if the dimensions are the same on both sides of the equation. Quantities can be added or subtracted only if they have the same dimensions, for instance if you have 2 apples and 3 oranges you cannot add them together in an equation, because they are not represented by the same dimensions, you could however in this example declare them as fruit and the you will have 2 fruit and 3 fruit which you can now add because they all have the same dimension of fruit. Dimension thus can be treated as algebraic quantities and all it entails.

Dimensional analysis doesn't solve the problem entirely, but it gives you the main properties of it and is great to use when you have forgotten the relationship and can use this procedure as a reminder. I shall give an example to illustrate how this works, take a deep breath, I'll brake this down in words first so you know what you are about to see - I'm going to find the relationship between distance time and acceleration, using dimensional analysis, I will place them in an equation as proportion to each other because I will not be able to find any factor that is dimensionless, I am going to loose that part of information from the equation, that's way I cannot place the symbol for equality (=), you will also see that I place the quantities in power ofclip_image001[52] I don't know what they are yet, and I will find them out through this procedure where the only restriction I have is that I am required to have the same dimensions on both side of the equation, the rest is basic algebra which I will not explain because that would be an entire blog in itself, here goes:

I want to know the relationship between the distance of an object, in a specific time frame moving in a specific acceleration. I would say then the distance (x) must be proportional to the acceleration (a) in the power clip_image001[54] and to the time (t) in the power ofclip_image001[56].
The equation will look something like this:

clip_image001[46]

where clip_image001[50]  is a symbol for proportionality

Now we represent the quantities in their nature, thus in the form of their dimension and we get this:
clip_image001[14]

Now we need to make sure there are the same dimensions on both sides of the equation and that will determine the value of clip_image001[54] andclip_image001[56]

On the one side we have the dimension of distance [L] in power of 1, thus that is what we must have on the other side for this equation to be valid. We see thus, that the dimension of time must be canceled, thus, for the equation will be equalized within the dimensions of it, we must determine the values
clip_image002[4]

Placing the values we found through basic algebra, we get that the equation
clip_image001[28]

some of you may know that the accurate equation is:
clip_image001[30]

but since 1/2 is dimensionless, there is no way of determining it using dimensional analysis.
So we see here the limitation of this technique is that it will not give us all the information regarding dimensionless constants in the equation, but it will give us a good stepping stone to work with, and as I said it is a great way to check for mistakes within an equation, because if the dimensions don't hold up there is defiantly something wrong that must be fixed and resolved for the equation to be valid.

What is essential for this technique is to understand the nature, thus the dimensions, of the quantities.

I'll give you another example to see how this analysis can go into different solutions, lets say I throw an object from a certain height, and I want to see how the time is dependent / proportional to the height.

I can assume that the time it takes will be proportional to the mass at a certain power, to the height at a certain power and to the pull of gravity at a certain power, the equation will look as follows:
clip_image001[38]

where: h = height, m = mass, g = gravity

and clip_image001[34]  are to be determined through the equation as befor.

On the right side of the equation I have the dimension of time and thus I must have the same dimension on the left side as well. The dimensions of height is [L], the dimensions of mass is [M], and of gravity is acceleration and thus will have the dimensions of:
clip_image001[42]

If you continue with the algebra as before you will find that the dimension of mass must be canceled out and thus =0, which means that the time it takes for an object to fall from a certain height is independent on it's mass, this is considered to be true and we have found it through the simple procedure of dimensional analysis.

Though, we could have created the original equation in such a way that would leave us at a dead end, and that there might be a dependency on mass after all, if we would have said that the time must be proportional to the mass of the object and the mass of the earth, which is still within common sense because the larger the earth the grater the pull is and thus it might effect the time of the fall. If we had done it in that way we would end up with an equation that has the dimension of time on the one side and the dimension of length and mass on the other - which would indicate we had made a mistake or there might be something more to the problem that we haven't considered.

This example was again, to show the limitation of this procedure, to recap, it cannot indicate the factor of the proportion, that is, it cannot indicate an equality because there might be a dimensionless component that the method is not capable of finding, and we can place relationships of quantities in such a way that will bring us to a dead end, which would be a cool opportunity to ask some more questions and get a clearer perspective, maybe discover new relationships that scientist have not thought of yet.

How can we now take this knowledge we have about dimensional analysis and the common sense within it and apply it on our life as a whole, to extract it from the confined world of physics into our entire existence?

What I am going to discuss is a point that we can derive from this regarding equations in general, as it is now clear that both sides of any equation must have the same dimensions to it, what this means is that the input will be equal to the output, in other words, the starting point of ones actions for example, will have the same dimensions as the outflow and consequences of ones actions - As within so without, as above so below. Whatever I put into one end of the equation will have to manifest something of the same dimension as the result on the other end of the equation. This then implies that we must come to know ourselves to such an extent that we can take responsibility for all the input we add into the equation of our lives - so if I am trying to figure out something about myself and my reality I must come to know the nature of myself, as the dimensions I exist as and participate with, dimensions in this context can be thoughts, fears, imaginations, emotions, feelings, reactions - and thus, when I am trying to figure myself out as to understand the relationships in my world that I have allowed to direct me and determine who I am, I must realize that what I bring as myself to the equation is what I will receive on the other side - this demonstrates the principle of "give as you would like to receive", as an actual law of physics, because what we give must be what we receive, within the common sense of dimensional analysis.

And looking at it from a broader perspective, not just in relation to my individual life, but rather within realizing that we live in a reality that is one, one reality shared by all of us, we then realize that there is in fact only one equation that is the accumulation of all our individual equations, as we exist within a reality that all and everything is interconnected and intertwined, and thus what I, the individual, put into the equation effect all in existence and will have an outflow as manifested consequence in the same dimension as the input I had added to the equation. Within this we can come to realize that all dimensions that exist, actually exist in everything, because we are all in fact living in the same reality, and thus the same equation, and thus within and as the same dimensions. Within realizing this, we must take responsibility for who we are within it all, and thus change our relationships within it all to create ourselves within the principle of "give as you would like to receive" and as "love thy neighbor as yourself" because only that way we will ensure that our input results in the output that is most beneficial to ourselves, and to all as equals. It's a big responsibility but it is the simple truth, all of who I am is part of the equation, and thus the dimensions I add to the equation - so I have the opportunity to decide who I am as to determine who I will influence and effect my life and reality as a whole.

An interesting point to consider, as we've seen above, this dimensional analysis can expose mistakes we have made in our equations, where we have equated two quantities that are of different dimensions - lets take a look at walking the desteni process: many beings within process have made the equation of process = time, they have been in process for 2, 3, 4 years and expect themselves to change, and to see results, but they neglected to realize that process and time are not of the same dimension, what one must realize is that it's not about how much time one walk process, but rather it's about who one is within walking process, and so, the accumulation of who one is, as how one apply oneself will equate to who one has become through the walking of the process in time, and then the equation would look like "who I am within walking process" = "who I am becoming" - where both sides of the equation have the dimension of self as who self is. In this way the dimension analysis can expose such a mistake in our understanding of process and help us change our relationship to it, so that we can correct ourselves within the realization that who I am in every moment within my life, and thus within walking process, will determine who I become, as the accumulation of 1+1+1+1… where components of the accumulation equation must be within the same dimension - this equation is not actually dependent on time, yes, we live in a space time reality, but what determines who I am, is who I am - as what I have accepted and allowed myself to exist as, as who I am.

Another example for a mistake in dimensional analysis we are all living is expressed in the current economic system, where we have created, and are living, the equation of life = money. we have equated the value of life to the value of money, thus, we have given life the value of money, but money and life do not have the same dimension, money is not alive, and doesn't in fact, as a physical necessity, support life. Thus we must reevaluate our equation and see what is the source of our mistake, and to take self responsibility in allowing ourselves to see the outflow as manifested consequences of our mistake.

The result of the current equation as money = life has created a world that is driven through profit, as we have equated money to life, and thus the more money one has the more value their life has, and the less money one has the more struggle they will experience through trying to survive in a world that has taken the value of life and has diminished it to the value of money. As if to say that life has value only if you have money, if you don't have money your life has no value. In the current system we can see the problem very clearly as so many people struggle to survive, as so many people are in fact slaves to the system, slaves to corporations that exist in the sole interest of making as much profit as they can, because that gives their life more value in the current equation we have all been living within.

Within realizing this, we must now take responsibility for our mistake and create an equation that equates life to life, as suggested in the equal money system, where the value of life is not diminished to value money, but rather that money is a tool to support the value of life, where all the relationships within the system are driven within the starting point of supporting the value of life, and then we will have an equation that all relationships exist within and as the dimension of life, and thus will equate life - at the moment all the relationships in the current system exist within the dimension of greed and profit, which allows as a manifested consequence the existence of manipulation, abuse and suffering as an integral part within the basic equation we have accepted and live according to, while not realizing that our equation is simply false, clearly evident through a simple dimensional analysis.

We must correct the equation so that the value of life will be equated in each and every one of the relationships that exist, within realizing that the accumulation of all the relationships that exist is represented as what we have in front of us as our reality - the result of all the relationships is what we see as the value of life - we must then change the value of our relationships, so that each and every relationship will support life, will be of life, and then we can have a corrected equation with life on the one side, and the accumulation of all relationships that support life and thus equate to life, on the other side.

The answer to the question above may have many more dimensions to it, lol, so, if any of you can find a cool and insightful perspective you are welcome to share in a comment or a response blog - I would love to see more perspectives, insights and understandings on this point, and so, together, we can connect the dots.

Day 9 - Fundamentals of Physics - 1.3 - Density

You are welcome to check out my previous blogs within the series “Fundamentals of Physics

As I've mentioned in previous blogs, I have decided to walk the physics textbook "Fundamentals of Physics", as to be sure to cover all the basic points and to align myself and all the readers, so that all have equal knowledge as an equally firm basis to start and expand from, and that we all share the same definitions as to reach a point of proper and effective communication and thus avoid miscommunications, within the principle of prevention is the best cure.

Today we reach the definition of Density. As in my previous blogs, I will first explain it simplistically as shown in the text book, and then will share my insight as to how we can use this information to better our existence as to through the knowledge of physics, as how we understand the physical functions, to find the correlation, the reflection into and as humanity, and to find practical ways to use the information to support ourselves to live in equilibrium with the law of physics, as the forces of nature that govern our existence.

Density is a property of substance, of matter, it is defined as the amount of mass contained in a unit volume. This implies that different substances have different densities, so for instance a cubic centimeter of aluminum , which corresponds to the volume of an aluminum (Al ) cube measuring 1 cm × 1 cm × 1 cm, will have a mass of 2.7 grams, and thus a density of 2.7 g/cm^3, where as lead ( Pb ) which is a denser substance will have mass of 11.3 g for each cubic centimeter of substance. But if all substance consists of the exact same particles, what causes the differences between the different substances, how does one substance differ from another in density?

In my previous blog I discussed the atom, but I left out some information, I mentioned it has a nucleus with a positive charge and around it a "cloud" of electrons with a negative charge - we know that each atom consists of the same particles, but that different substances have different densities, they thus must differ in the amount of particles they hold within them, thus they differ in the amount of protons/neutrons in the nucleus and the electrons around it.

Another point I didn't mention is the mass these particles have - even though very small, the neutrons, protons and electrons have mass, and within the principle of accumulation as 1 + 1 = 2, the accumulation of mass of all these tiny particles gives us what we know and see as matter. Within the atom, the protons and neutron have approximate the same mass where as the electron has approximately 1/1863 of the mess of the proton, thus the electrons are disregarded when speaking about the mass of the atom because their mass is so much smaller, as they are about 10 to the power of 3 smaller in mass than the protons/neutrons, Thus, the sum of the protons and neutrons in an atom is considered to represent the mass of the atom and is defined as the atomic mass of the atom.

An atom is specifically defined by the amount of protons in the nucleus which is called the atomic number, the atomic number is thus like the atom's identity number, whereas the amount of neutrons can change in the same atom. This phenomenon of having a different amount of neutrons to a specific atom, is referred to as an isotope, where an isotope is the same atom, thus the same atomic number as the amount of protons, but with variations within the amount of neutrons it holds, the amount of neutrons don't define the atom, only the amount of protons does. This is why, when looking at the element periodic table, you will find the atomic number to be a whole/natural number (1, 2, 3, etc.) and the atomic mass will not be a whole number (1.00794, 4.002602, 6.941, etc.) because it is actually the average of the atomic mass in all isotopes of a specific atom. You can Explore all the relevant key information about the chemical elements, within the different atoms, through this periodic table.

As I've said, the amount of protons is what defines the property / identity / personality / characteristics of an atom, whereas the amount of electrons will be equal to the amount of protons, in order to sustain stability in an electrically balanced atom. Remember that the proton and electron have equal but opposite charge, whereas the neutron's charge is zero, thus for the atom to have overall no electric charge, the electrons and protons charge must be equal in order to balance each other out. Though, it is not a requirement for an atom to be electrically balanced at all times, thus it doesn't have to have the same amount of electrons and protons, but I will expand on this point in the future

Now, back to density, it has been found that every atom has a different amount of particles, but one could assume that the more particles the bigger the atom, and thus the density would remain constant for all substances, but it has been found that the size of the atom is not in direct relation to the amount of particles, thus you have atoms that have more particles but are smaller in size than atom with less particles, as well as the distance between the atoms, as they "hold on to each other", is not constant as within each substance the connections and interactions are different - this thus brings us to the obvious conclusion that each atom mast have a different density of particles within it, as well as, as we've shown above, each substance has a different density.

How can we now take this information, as the principle of density, as a unique property of the different expressions of substance, into application of our process of understanding ourselves and the reality around us in a more profound and insightful way?
Within our life experience we can relate this to our emotions and feelings, as an example of one dimension of looking at it, though within the principle of "as above so below", we can expect to find the same construct in all dimensions within and as the mind, as personalities, thoughts, memories, etc.

what I am referring to is - just as different substances have different densities, our emotions and feelings are experienced as having different densities, as some emotions and feelings by nature are more dense than others, thus, they can be seen as having more substance/mass per "unit volume". This is the reason we experience some emotions and feeling are harder to move through, to transcend, than others, they are simply more dense.

On the negative spectrum as emotions, some examples of dense emotions are anger, hatred, jealousy - as we experience these dense emotions, one can say that "a little goes a long way", they will have a long lasting hold on us, as appose to less dense emotions such as irritation, boredom etc. the emotions that are less dense will be easier to be brushed away. Same goes for positive spectrum as feelings, where some examples of dense feelings will be desire, love, lust etc. the greater the density of the feelings it will be less likely to let it go easily, we will want to hold onto it as it actually has a hold on us, we will be directed by it intensely, on the other side of the scale we can find feelings with less density as gratefulness, joy and content, as these feelings will visit us momentarily and will be forgotten much faster.

A side note - It's important to add that what I have given is a general base line of the range of densities of feelings and emotions, they have a natural density which determines the intensity of their presents and control on us, but we have a part in it as well, as the more we participate with a specific emotion or feeling we are giving it more power over us, so you can find on an individual level that a less dense feeling or emotion has great power over you, this doesn't necessarily mean it is very dense, you must look within self honesty and investigate how much have you been participating in it, and thus have given it more power over you.

The same can be said about emotions and feelings that one has walked through within writing, self forgiveness, and basically has transcended, or started to transcend the energetic experience, thus giving the specific emotion or feeling less power over self, in such a case it doesn't mean that it isn't dense by it's nature, it would just mean that you have walked it through a process and have taken directive principle over it - this is a cool point to consider when investigating emotions and feelings and their effect / influence / power they have over self from the perspective of not taking it personally, as some will be easier to walk through than others depending on their natural density, within this always investigating within self responsibility our participation in the emotions and feelings throughout the years, as our participation within them is a vital variable to the equation of how much power we have allowed it to have over us.

For further perspective on the point of emotions and feelings you are welcome to investigate the quantum mind eqafe interviews that explain specifically personality systems, and much much more - and, if you are new to eqafe interviews, allow yourself to listen unconditionally, allow yourself to go beyond what you believe to be true and check for yourself, within self trust, as you allow yourself to investigate the point through your own awareness of yourself - because this is what we all must get to within the principle of "man know thy self" - we must be able to check any point on ourselves and as ourselves, so that we are not lost in a sea of believes as knowledge and information but that we actually find ourselves on dry land, standing stable in a self knowing of who we are.

Day 8 - Fundamentals of Physics - 1.2 - The building blocs of matter

The-psychology-of-the-atom

For a profound and insightful interview regarding the atom, please investigate with an "open mind" the EQAFE interview : "The Psychology of The Atom", explaining the creation and the function of the atom and subatomic particles from a perspective that has never been heard before.

Today I will discuss the atom. The atoms have been referred to by scientist as the basic building blocs of matter.

The concept came about through a philosophical question regarding whether or not matter could be divided again and again into infinity and maintain it's original properties, this question dates back to ancient India and Greece, over one thousand years ago, where they have concluded that there must be a basic particle / structure that matter consists of and that cannot be divided. The term Atom comes from the Greek word átomos, which means indivisible, "uncuttable" or "the smallest indivisible particle of matter", this term was coined by the Greek philosopher Democritus, the student of Leucippus in approximately 450 BCE.

To illustrate this point, imagine a chunk of gold, split it into two pieces, now you have two chunks of gold and both pieces will still retain their chemical identity as the properties of gold, split them again and again and again… eventually you will get to the most basic particle which will be identical in all substance as the building blocks of all matter, and thus will not have the qualities of gold anymore - this was the main hypothesis made by the Greek philosophers, though scientists have found that gold is a chemical element and it's atom defines and thus still has the properties of gold, because it was found in the 18'th and 19'th century that the atom isn't the most basic particle and can actually be split - but the idea of splitting matter until we find a basic particle still stands, we know today the elementary particles are the electron and other subatomic particles.

The idea and thus the name was given to the atom as the smallest indivisible particle, though, as mentioned above, more recent research has shown that it itself consists of smaller subatomic particles - what science know today is that and each atom is made up of electrons, that hold a negative electric charge, each electron is defined as -1, and the electrons surround a central nucleus that hold a positive electric charge, the nucleus is composed by neutrons, which as their name implies hold a neutral charge, and protons which hold a positive charge, each proton is defined as +1. The neutrons and protons are composed by even smaller particles called quarks which have been given the names of up, down, strange, charm, bottom, and top. The up, charm, and top quarks have charges of +2/3 that of the proton, whereas the down, strange, and bottom quarks have charges of -1/3 that of the proton. The proton consists of two up quarks and one down quark, which you can easily show leads to the correct charge for the proton (2/3 + 2/3 - 1/3 = 1). Likewise, the neutron consists of two down quarks and one up quark, giving a net charge of zero (- 1/3 - 1/3 +2/3 = 0).

The name given to the atom, as you can see, is not as suitable anymore because it is clear that it can be divided into it's smaller particles, yet the name remained and the search for the smallest indivisible particle continues. The most resent and very exciting finding was the Higgs boson, which I have not yet investigated so will not speak of, but it appears that every new finding opens the way for more questions and more research so it seems to be a never ending story.

What I find disturbing about this quest for the elementary particles, is that scientific research has demonstrated time and time again that the goal of the research is not to understand our reality from a practice and livable perspective, but is to learn how to manipulate substance through the findings they have reached, in order to serve the perceived benefit of the human where as most of the findings end up being used as a play ground to build faster computer more sophisticated technology and more effective weapons - as most of the research is funded and used for military purposes - there is this aura about science and specifically physics as it is our way to improve our well being and for that justification so much funding is being pored into it, but in reality physics is not aimed to actually understand reality and the human within it, nor to find ways through the findings to bring about an equilibrium for humanity to exist as one with the rest of existence as a whole.

I realize and have stated in previous blogs that scientists are approaching science through their preprogrammed mind systems, and thus their starting point is a systematic starting point, one of separation - when we look at their approach to the physical, it is clear they perceive it as being something lifeless, separated from us, as we all probably do to some extent, but along side with the belief the physical is lifeless we the human, the scientists, believe we have the right to analyze and dissect it for our benefit, looking at it as a foreign object, separated from us which we define as life and as such the possibility that substance is the basis for our life here is not taken into consideration, clearly we would not be here if it wasn't for substance, it has been here way before we have, and it will survive all the manipulations we are inflicting upon it and still will be here to see us humans perish away if we don't "get our act together", we have a lot to learn from the physical and research is a cool way to approach it - but it all has to do with out starting point - are we going to continue investigating the physical in separation or are we going to allow ourselves to investigate it within a starting point of self reflection, within realizing that we are the physical, equal and one, and all the findings can shed another ray of light into understanding ourselves and our acceptances and allowances within this world as our existence.

Lets see some of the hidden assumptions that hold together the atomic theory, and the physics research in general:

1) It is an assumption that everything that is here, including humanity, human nature and consciousness started and originated from the atom as the structure we know and see today, another perspective could be that the atom evolved to be what it is today, manifested, created and designed to enslave the physical to energy and humanity to the mind.

2) It is an assumption that if we keep on searching we will find the elementary particle that cannot be split any further, another perspective could be that perhaps this quest is the biggest ever lasting distraction, keeping us from what really matters and can really influence our existence to the better.

3) It is an assumption that matter as the physical is lifeless, another perspective could be that the physical is the essence of life itself, and only through equalizing ourselves to the physical as life will we even know what life really is.

4) It is an assumption that we have the right to manipulate matter to our benefit while disregarding everything else in existence through not considering the delicate relationships that hold everything in balance, another perspective could be that our interference with the physical is abusive and distractive within our very starting point of separation, and that as long as we disregard the physical as life we are headed towards consequences that we are not equipped to handle

5) It is an assumption that what we are looking for can be found "out there" in research separate from us as we investigate matter as substance in separation from ourselves, another perspective could be that everything that we ever find is always pointing back to ourselves as giving us an opportunity to investigate the point within ourselves, to learn from what we find and apply it to and as ourselves - that the answer is within ourselves as who we are within what we do with and perceive our findings, and not the findings themselves.

6) It is an assumption that it's more valuable and beneficial for humanity to spend money, time and resources on research in the goal to solve existential questions, that is based mainly on curiosity rather than spending the money, time and resources to actually benefit the lives here on earth directly through implementing the vast amount of research and findings that have already been investigated and is able to end suffering and abuse for humanity and all life in existence.

7) It is an assumption that physics is not responsible to investigate human nature and is restricted to the realm of the lifeless physical, in the search of more life "out there" which will then be passed on to another department as of physics not taking responsibility for life, another perspective could be that human nature is obviously related to the physical as it is our habitat if nothing else, and that all life is connected to the physical and thus the responsibility of physics and all scientific discipline to address it and consider it.

If you haven't read my blog about scientific paradigm, please do so, and consider investigating the writings of Thomas Kohn in his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions - it is clear that these hidden assumptions and many many more have been the directive principle for the scientific research, and as the dominant paradigm, they have not been questioned sufficiently.

As in every scientific revolution, you must allow yourself to boldly go where no one has gone before, thus, allow yourself to investigate anything that is an assumption, ask yourself what is the starting point of such an assumption, is it ignorance, is it fear, is it greed, power, control, or is the starting point to investigate all things and keep that which is good, from the perspective of finding ways to benefit all life equally as what is best for all life - putting all the greatest minds together to find practical solutions, the same human minds that have thought of atoms 800 years before the technology to prove they existed, can surely come together and find practical, livable, uncompromising solutions that will be best for all life .

The splitting of matter into it's basic particles is a pealing off of it's self definition, it's individuality, when splitting it further and further it comes down to the same substance, I have interpreted it as follows:

1) the concept of atoms, the elementary particles, the building blocks of matter, represent the common denominator of all substance, thus it stands for equality within and all everything as we are all equally made out of the same basic particles.

2) our self definition is limited to our belief, we must ask ourselves what are we going to find if we allow ourselves to peal off all that we believe ourselves to exist as, we must ask ourselves and investigate what might remain as the essence of ourselves if we allow ourselves to let go everything we have defined as ourselves - as we have been looking for the essence of life, of matter, in the subatomic particles instead of looking at ourselves and finding the "subatomic particles" within ourselves as the beingness of and as ourselves, as life itself - what else are we going to find, when looking at the essence of life, but life?

3) the fact that we are all equally made of the same substance, the same life force, yet we are individualized, reflects that something more is going on - the relationships between the particles as substance that creates us as who we are - on one dimension we can see this through looking at the chemical relationships as the relationships between particles, pulling themselves together to form molecules, to form structure, enslaved to each other, interacting with each other, balance each other. On another dimension we can reflect this to all relationships and interaction in our existence - from the electrical, to the chemical to the biological to the psychological to the social - The atom shows us that we are all made of the same basic "building blocks" and thus are equal from that perspective, and it shows that everything these building blocks build is created through relationships as interactions - the laws of physics show us the possibilities of stable, effective and supportive relationships and the possibility of instable, abusive, destructive ones. As well it shows us through the human influence as we deliberately create imbalance in natural relationships as manipulation to substance, in the justification of research, though, even through seeing the massive destructive nature that creating a deliberate imbalance to the relationships of the atom, as substance, has on reality, as the obvious example of the atom bomb for instance, we have not dedicated ourselves to stabilize ourselves as making sure that we create balance and stable and effective relationships, where all participants in the relationship are taken care of, thus we have not been working towards equilibrium, even though we clearly see the destruction we create through manifesting an imbalanced relationship.

Here within the research of the atom, to sum it up, the three points we could investigate further and find how the atom represents these points from which we can learn and apply ourselves are equality, life and relationships - these are critical points to investigate within ourselves, as the laws of physics bring us back to them time and time again - we can align ourselves with what physics is showing us and thus walk with the forces of nature and be supported by them in harmony, or we can walk in conflict with nature, as we ignore the simple truths that are so clearly visible when one takes off the vale of the mind, as the vale of predetermined belief systems that investigate all in separation, and instead replace them in a humble investigation, within the starting point of self honesty, self responsibility and actually finding solutions that will benefit all life that live - I will investigate the definition of life further in blogs to come.

We have a responsibility to take all that we see around us and reflect it back to ourselves to take in each and every discovery to check ourselves, to see how we can utilize it to create more harmony in our lives and reality.
